AI in Abby Schools
What is Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
Generative AI is a potent technology with the capacity to revolutionize teaching, learning, and work. At Abbotsford School District, we are having the conversations and stepping into the AI space thoughtfully. We must address concerns related to data privacy, algorithmic bias, and its impact on education. Achieving the optimal balance between AI and human interaction is essential. The following resources are designed to assist staff and students in using generative AI responsibly.
It is important for both our students and employees to understand the potential benefits and risks associated with AI. We will continue to focus on this topic as it evolves. The Ministry of Education provides the most current guidelines, and we will keep our resources updated regularly to reflect any new developments.
This video from the AI Education Project offers a great overview of the different kinds of AI.

Appropriate and Responsible Use
The ethical, responsible, and safe use of AI in classrooms demands a human-centered approach that emphasizes meaningful learning experiences. AI can serve as a valuable supplement, adding enrichment and depth to classroom practices. But it is important to remember that AI serves as a complement to human processes. Please see the Considerations for Using AI Tools in K-12 Schools for more information about the responsible use of these tools.
